Cross City and Environs

Although located in a quiet, wooded setting, Hickory Haven is less than ten minutes from Cross City, a town where the essence of "cracker Florida" still thrives and the quality of family life and leisure activity abounds in the rural heart of Florida's Nature Coast. Cross City offers everything you need from hometown banks, groceries, gas and auto supply, to real estate/property services. There are several comfortable, reasonably priced motels. There's a Burger King and a Hardy's for your fast-food cravings. At the Piggly Wiggly you can purchase locally produced smoked sausage and bacon at surprisingly low prices. Several quaint country restaurants tempt you with hearty fare and friendly service. Be sure to try the country buffet at the Carriage Inn, or Friday night steak night at the Cypress Inn. If it's laid back country living you crave, with friendly neighbors, natural beauty and a simpler way of life, then Hickory Haven and Cross City is for you.

Just about ten minutes further south on U.S. 19, you'll encounter Old Town, Fanning Springs and Chiefland, each offering their own sampling of small town charm. Restaurants, antique stores, outfitters, dive shops, even a Walmart, ensure access to anything you could want or need. Just a little over an hour east, is Gainseville, with all the resources of a major university town, home of the University of Florida and the famous Florida Gators.

Cross City offers ample opportunities for recreational activities such as fresh and saltwater fishing, hunting, birding, swimming in one of many natural springs, cave diving, boating, canoeing, kayaking, hiking and nature trails, bargain shopping at country flee markets and exploring the many small towns within easy drive.
